The Sustent Algarve festival was organized by GlocalFaro, New Loops and Plataforma Algarve Livre de Petróleo (PALP) a movement created in defense of a Sustainable Algarve and against oil exploration in the region, along with the C.M. from Faro. It consisted of various activities, workshops and an exhibition area in Manuel Bivar garden in the center of Faro between 10 and 13 May.
Sustent'Algarve: "Think about the Present - Plan the future" was the second edition of this event conceived to reflect on the present and build a sustainable future for Algarve. There we found products and services based on the principles of sustainability in areas such as renewable energy, organic agriculture and trade in organic products, furniture and sports equipment built with endogenous products, sustainable tourism, vegetarian food and others.
Followbirds was present in the exhibitors area. We were able to show our project to everyone who came up and explained how to use our application to discover the suggested routes for birdwatching in the Algarve region.
During the four-day festival we had the opportunity to know many projects and associations related to nature tourism:
QRER - which aims to be a meeting and working point for all those who want to settle in low-density territories, both young graduates and entrepreneurs with business ideas that can be viable.
Proactivetur - a young travel agency specialising in ecotourism and creative tourism in the Algarve and also in consultancy services with regard to local development.
Pernatur - provides Nature Tourism services based in walking trails that offers to the visitors unique and genuine experiences through an intense contact with the natural, paisagistic and cultural patrimony of the Olhão area.
AlgarvebySegway - a company that presents innovative and ecological solutions for human mobility, which aims above all to promote the use of a revolutionary vehicle, called Segway.
Megasport Travel - a tour operator for walking and cycling Tours in Portugal and in Europe.
In addition, different documentaries were shown, lectures and worshops. One of the documentaries that was projected there was Seeds - The untold story.
