On the weekend of 28th and 29th of April 2018 we were discovering beautiful landscapes of Ameixial and Serra do Caldeirão, where is annually occurring the WFA - Walking Festival Ameixial, since 2013.
This increasing cultural event is connecting nature with heritage, inspired by the walking festivals of Europe and by the theme of one of the oldest written scripts found in Iberian Penninsula - Southwest Script, also found between the Mú and the Caldeirão mountains.
We were participating in the birdwatching tour, guided by the experienced birdwatching guide Miguel Mendes. We had a chance to introduce our project to a lovely group of 20 participants and test for the first time our freshly released beta version. During the walk we had a chance to spot many lovely species like a Iberian Green Woodpecker (Picus viridis), Turtle Dove (Streptopelia turtur), Crested Lark (Galerida cristata), Little Owl (Athene noctua) and even a rarity like Bonelli's Eagle (Aquila fasciata)! We saved them all on our checklist. 🙂 We believe the testing was successful and that we passed the first "test" by creating the positive experience for our participants!
During the festival we also had a chance to present our project also with the stand where we've met many interesting people: from locals to Spanish, Catalans, Dutch, British and French. We would like to thank WFA organization for inviting us to be part of this growing event.
In the gallery below we are sharing few moments during the fantastic weekend in Ameixial!
